The story behind us

Move forward. Clear the next mark.

With respect 01 01

Pixel Exodus started in 2019 out of a shared frustration. Marcus Hale had spent four years as a senior developer at a mid-size agency in Bristol, watching projects drift. Briefs would arrive, get handed to a designer, then a developer, then a project manager who had not read the brief. By the time something shipped, the original idea was buried under three rounds of miscommunication and a lot of apologetic emails. He left in the spring of 2019 and started Pixel Exodus with one rule: every project gets a route before it gets a pixel.

One point of contact per project, no handoff chains

The checkpoint model came from a conversation with a parkour coach Marcus trained with on weekends. The coach talked about how you never attempt a run without walking it first, naming every mark, knowing exactly where your foot lands. Marcus wrote that down on a napkin and it became the operating model for the studio. The first client was a Bristol-based property tech startup that needed a full rebrand and a web app in 14 weeks. They cleared every checkpoint on time. That client is still with us on a monthly retainer.

Marcus Hale
Founder

Marcus Hale spent four years as a senior developer at a Bristol agency before founding Pixel Exodus in 2019. He trained in parkour on weekends and borrowed the sport's route-mapping discipline to build the studio's checkpoint model. Before agency life, he shipped internal tools for a logistics company in Cardiff, where he learned that the most expensive bugs are the ones nobody named in the brief. He reads a lot of technical writing, runs most mornings, and has a strong opinion about when not to use a carousel. He leads every new client engagement personally through the first two checkpoints.
